About Our Herd
Descendants of the oldest domestic breed of cattle, our two Scottish Highland Cows, Kennedy (the blonde) and Tinker (black) produce our calves
Each year we send the two cows for a conjugal visit with award-winning Levi, a massive Highland bull, on Sauvie Island. Their latest calves go along, as they are not weaned on till they are at least eight months old. The remainder of their lives is spent on our farm, grazing on natural pastures March through November, and feeding on locally grown seeded hay (no spray or chemicals) during the winter months. The Terrain
The Oregon Trail
Our 9 paddocks are on 5 acres of loam on the north shore of S. Scappoose Creek as it exits Dutch Canyon. Excellent loam soil and Southern exposure yield abundant pastures.
The gentle S. slope and storm-sheltered valley are as ideal farm land now as it was when homesteaded 160 years ago. The valley’s East-West orientation allows for full sun, dawn to dusk. Read More...
